Certified engineering technicians and technologists recognize that the services they render have a significant impact on the quality of life for everyone. As they perform their duties and responsibilities on behalf of the public, employers, and clients, they should demonstrate personal integrity and competence. Accordingly, certificants should:
- Have due regard for the physical environment and for public safety, health, and well-being. If their judgment is overruled under circumstances where the safety, health, property, or welfare of the public may be endangered, they should notify their employer, client, and/or such other authority as may be appropriate.
- Undertake only those assignments for which they are competent by the way of their education, training and experience.
- Discharge their duties to their employer or client in an efficient and competent manner with complete fidelity and honesty.
- Conduct themselves in a dignified manner. They will admit and accept their own errors when proven wrong and refrain from distorting or altering the facts in an attempt to justify their decisions.
- Disclose to their employers or clients, in writing, and conflict of interest or other interest which might create the appearance of a conflict of interest.
- Not receive, either directly or indirectly, any gratuity, commission, or other financial benefit in connection with any work which they are performing unless such benefit has been authorized by their employer or client.
- Neither personally or through any other agency or persons improperly seek to obtain work or, by the way of commissions or otherwise, make or offer to make payments to clients or prospective clients for obtaining such work.
- Strive to maintain their proficiency by updating their technical knowledge and skills in engineering technology.
- Not misrepresent or permit misrepresentation of their own or their associate's academic or professional qualifications nor exaggerate their degree or responsibility for any work.
- Not reveal facts, data, or information obtained in connection with services rendered without the prior consent of the client or employer except as authorized or required by law.
